New News and Day Three

Leila kept trying to grab food out of our hands while we were in Michigan, so we decided to go ahead and give her some rice cereal when we got back.

We, of course, expected her to spit most of it out, but we were surprised to see her eat almost the entire bowl we gave her!

It was messy, but really fun. Want to watch the video?

Since then, she's had cereal almost every day. We've discovered she prefers to have a bit of liquid in it and that she'll spit it out more often if it's too dry.

She keeps trying to take the spoon and help feed herself. Which would be great if she didn't keep gagging herself. :)

We were surprised to discover a truce had been made in honor of Leila's first time eating solid food.

As for our Michigan trip, day 3 was spent hanging out with our family and going to eat Coney Island hotdogs for dinner - a must if you're ever in the Flint or Detroit areas of Michigan!

Here is Grandpa and my 8-year-old cousin, Rory, watching the men cut down a huge tree in my grandparent's yard.
While they did this, we went on a walk through a nearby neighborhood,

where we came across this...
Who knew they grew corn in Michigan?!

Then we went home and got cleaned up to go get some good old coneys!

The boys were excited about pushing Leila in her stroller.
\
And everyone else was happy to entertain Leila, too.

Here are some videos we missed...
-Our layover in Atlanta video.
-Leila's first bath in her ducky video.
-The video of Leila showing off the sound she learned while taking a nap last Tuesday. (Seriously. She woke up from her nap and started making this noise at me.)

Day 2

Day 2 of our Michigan trip started out with Leila's Nan coming in to gather her up, so that I was able to sleep late. It was such a blessing, since I was completely  exhausted. So, Leila spent time with her Great-Grandma...

And her Great-Grandpa...

And she played in the walker my Aunt Kim was able to borrow for her...

Leila got hungry, and I had a bag of milk left over from the plane ride, so Great-Grandma fed Leila

And rocked her to sleep

Then Leila played with my little cousins, Kasy

And Rory

They seemed to really enjoy having a baby around, and doted on her the entire trip.

That night, Leila took her first bath in her new big-girl ducky tub, and she seemed to LOVE it!

It was quite the show, and everyone came to watch...

Then, after my grandparents and Leila went to sleep, it was time for us girls to have some fun. Danielle started showing off how high she could move her ponytail and decided to show us she could do it to our hair as well.

We were tired and it was HILARIOUS!

(This is me on the floor laughing at Rebecca's hair)

(Aren't we pretty?)

We had gone to their fun grocery store, called Meijer, and we found the most ginormous marshmallows!

Day One

Our trip to Michigan had a very early start. Our flight left DFW at 6:50 a.m., which meant being at the airport by 5.:( We waited until the last possible moment to wake Leila up, but it still included a very early morning. Even so, she was in a good mood. Tired, but good.

When we arrived, we checked in...

And then waited to board our plane. Leila hung out in Nan's new umbrella stroller, bought just for this occasion.
(Like her socks? "Aunt" Rachel bought Leila those cuties before she was even born. We got lots of compliments on them on our journey.)

Once we boarded, we found many ways to entertain ourselves. We chewed on stuff...
And made new friends (particularly with the Mommy and 16-month-old girl behind us - her name was Hosanna. Isn't that pretty?)
She even gave Leila a kiss goodbye

We had a layover in Atlanta, during which Leila had a quick change of clothes. Then, we boarded our plane for Michigan!
Looking out the window was fun...

And so was chewing on her diaper bag...

Once we arrived in Michigan, we went to my grandparents house for a few minutes, where we met some very happy family.
And then we loaded back up, and headed to my Aunt Kim's house, where everyone was gathering to eat and visit with us.
Aunt Kim was so helpful and had managed to arrange all kinds of the big items Leila would need on our trip. Her borrowed carseat was a bit big, and made her look tee-tiny!
This was about 3 p.m. and Leila had only slept about an hour all day, so she was getting a little sleepy...

Aunt Kim has 4 boys, so she couldn't get enough of Leila...

Grandma and Grandpa enjoyed the company, too.

And so did Aunt Mel

Leila and I both ended up falling asleep on Aunt Kim's bed before the afternoon was over, and were more than happy to go back to Grandma and Grandpa's house for an early bedtime.

And that was the first big day of our trip!
